Advantages of robotic surgery vs manual surgery

Robots are everywhere, and contrary to how movies show them, robots can be precisely controlled by human beings. So, why do we need robots in this world, a Robot can do tasks with extreme and minute precision, a robot can make tinier incisions and ensure their accuracy, something that human hands may not always be capable of delivering.

The primary benefit of using robots in surgery when the surgeon tries to perform laparoscopic surgery. A robot is extremely useful when attempting to repair bone and other tissue using tiny incisions. This results in minimally invasive surgeries performed with extreme accuracy. All of this translates to a higher success rate, quicker healing time and minimal discomfort to the patient. Furthermore, these types of surgeries are particularly useful when performing routine surgeries like knee replacements. The underlying benefit is employing robots to perform surgery improves accuracy.

Robotic surgery

All over the world, the most progressive health care establishments are already adopting robots as a routine part of their procedures. This large scale implementation is primarily due to the efficacy of robots in surgery. In particular, robots have found a place in orthopaedic procedures. Orthopaedic procedures require accuracy, even the slightest mistake during surgery can cause a lot of pain to the patient. We all hear of many cases where even after an orthopaedic procedure the patient feels pain and discomfort, this pain is often only fixed after another surgery. This is usually due to a slight misalignment, this may include a screw used to keep joint or ligament in place is hitting a nerve, or maybe the issue is in the placement itself. These problems arise predominantly because of a lack of precision while performing the surgery. Robots change all of that by improving precision.

In conclusion, Robots improve the inefficiencies in orthopaedic surgery, and often times it is these inefficiencies that lead to greater pain and discomfort in the patients after surgery. Robots have successfully eliminated such inefficiencies and ensure maximum comfort after surgery.

Best Sleeping Position For Your Neck And Back

Good sleeping posture can help you to prevent neck pain.

Sleeping in a wrong posture can cause you heavy neck pain or back pain. It can also lead to other complications such as sleep apnea as it obstructs the airways to your lungs. Sleeping in a good posture can make a big difference in the way you feel when you wake up.

Here are a few tips to keep a good posture while you sleep.

  • Choose a comfortable mattress to sleep.
  • Too high or stiff pillows can keep your neck flexed over the night which can cause morning pain or stiffness.

  • Using a flat pillow can also put a strain on your back. You must not feel like you are extending your neck or bending your head when lying on your back or side.

  • If you sleep on your back try to use a small pillow below the back of your knees which can help to reduce stress on your spine and support the natural curve in your lower back. The pillow for your head must support your head, the natural curve of your neck, and also your shoulders.

  • A pillow should allow your nose to align with the centre of your body when lying on your side

  • If you sleep on your stomach, try using a pillow under the forehead so as you are facing the mattress.

  • If you are sleeping in an upright position like sitting, you can protect your neck by using a neck pillow to prevent your head from dropping to one side.

  • You can insert pillows between your body and the mattress as per your comfort.

What Happens When Joint Pain And Knee Pain Go Untreated?

If you are a person, ignoring the adequate attention needed for your joint pain, you may end up facing a lot of problems in the future. If knee pain is reducing your ability to take part in the activities you normally do, then it is time to seek appropriate medical attention.

If left untreated this joint pain can lead to other complications and can significantly affect the quality of life.

What are the major reasons for joint pain?

Joint pain can occur for several reasons like, arthritis (joint inflammation) which includes osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing arthritis.

What are the complications?

Arthritis is the source of chronic pain that can be exhausting and debilitating. It can also lead to problems with disability, anxiety, and depression. Major complications are:

Disability and loss of function: Joint pain and arthritis affect tissues surrounding the joints, including tendons, ligaments, and muscles that stabilize joints. This condition weakens the joints and can lead to a loss of function and eventually disability.

Sleep disruption: Chronic pain in the joint may affect sleep and can intensify the pain in the coming days. Stiffness and limited range of motion can also keep you from getting a comfortable sleep and rest.

Weight gain: Pain and stiffness can decrease the interest to be active. You will start avoiding activities like exercising or even taking a walk. This will eventually cause unhealthy weight gain.

Social withdrawal: Disability, weight gain and chronic joint pain may stop you from participating in activities that used to bring you joy. This eventually can withdraw you from social activities.

Anxiety and depression: Weight gain, loss of interest in pleasurable activities, a change in appetite, sleep disturbances, difficulty concentrating, etc will gradually push you into anxiety and depression.

There are other complications like bone death, stress fractures, bleeding or infection in the joints, deterioration of tendons and ligaments around joints and pinched nerve.

If you are experiencing chronic joint pain along with the symptoms like fever, unexplained weight loss, swollen joint and muscle weakness it's important to make an appointment with your doctor. The Santpure hospital offers the best care for patients suffering from intense joint pain.
